Obituary – Thomas Richard Titus

Thomas Richard “Dick” Titus, age 91, of Lamoni, IA died Friday, September 20, 2019, in LeRoy, MN. Dick was born on September 6, 1928, in Crawfordsville, IN to Raymond and Mildred (Cedars) Titus.

He served in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Camp Roberts, California. Following his military service he received a Bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in Lafayette, IN where he met and married Muriel Joan Herron in 1954.

He worked as an aviation instructor for the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana and was also a pilot for the university’s sports teams. He had a long career as a commercial airline pilot for United Airlines retiring as a second officer on the Boeing 747 airplane.

As lifelong lovers of farming and ranching, Dick and Muriel owned and operated a cattle ranch in Lamoni, IA for many years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, William “Billy” on February 10, 1952; wife, Muriel on August 9, 1998; and wife, Julia on May 8, 2017.

Survivors include his daughters, Cathy (George) Neumueller and Terry (Martin) Felt; grandchildren, Shawn Felt, Hilary Todd and Courtney Felt; great grandchildren, Madilyn Felt and Emma Felt; siblings, Barbara Adams, Betty Korhonen, Robert Titus, Janice Mueller, Anna Dickson and Nancy Soards; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
