Obituary – Ruth Jeanette Bremer

Ruth Jeanette Bremer, age 92, of rural Garden Grove, Iowa, was born July 18, 1926, in Decatur County, Iowa to Wilbur Earl and Cora Mae (Clark) Braby. She died at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa on Friday, November 30, 2018.

Ruth grew up in High Point Township and the Garden Grove, Iowa area. She attended Reynolds Country School and graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1944, before attending Simpson College for the summer to earn her teaching certificate. The next three years she taught school in Milo, South Woodland, and Lewisburg, Iowa. On December 24, 1947, she and Daryl Dean Bremer were married. She and Dean had a long and happy marriage, raising their three children, Lyle, Linda, and Jerry, and working together on the farm in the Garden Grove and High Point area until retirement.

After the children were grown, Ruth worked in the kitchen at Westview Acres for a couple of years while her parents were residents there. Later she volunteered at the nursing home reading the newspaper to the residents. She and Dean hosted an annual outing for them to their farm to see their livestock and crops. They also hosted an annual community hayride and hot dog roast for several years. In her free time, Ruth loved to read, especially stories about pioneer school teachers. She also enjoyed her flowers and garden. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed any family gathering. She was a long time member of the High Point United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her in-laws; husband, Dean in May of 2000; great, great grandchild, Elena; her siblings, Lee (Helen) Braby, Elsie (Bob) Smith, Glen (Roberta) Braby, Jack Braby, and Esther (Lloyd) Fry; Dean’s siblings, Vere (Madge) Bremer, Maurice (Emily) Bremer, and Lois (Dwain) Bethards.

Ruth was a humble, independent, and gentle woman who will especially be missed by her children, Lyle Bremer (Sue Demichelis) of Garden Grove, Iowa, Linda (Jeff) Linn of Earlham, Iowa, and Jerry (Debbie) Bremer of Garden Grove; seven grandchildren, Chad Bremer, Darla Harmon, Tyler (Kayla) Linn, Casey (Chelsea) Linn, Stacy Larson (Chris Wistock), Leslie (Andrew) Bexten, and Kelli (Ian) Loomis; seven great grandchildren, Josh McLaughlin, Darrick Harmon, Kortny Harmon, Dean Linn, Levi Bexten, Jacob Bexten, and Aeris Loomis; one great, great grandchild, Yuki Harmon; sister-in-law, Shari Braby of Lebanon, Missouri; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, with Pastor Rick Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in the High Point Cemetery, south of Garden Grove, Iowa.
