Mildred Mary Bennett, age 92, of Leon, Iowa, died February 12, 2020, at Westview Acres in Leon. She was born Mary Mildred Keller on December 4, 1927, to Edward Hubert and Maude May (Town) Keller, at Leon, Iowa. As an adult she legally changed her name to Mildred Mary.

Mildred grew up in Decatur County, Iowa. She attended Sunnyside Country School, Decatur School, and graduated from Leon High School in 1947. On June 12, 1948, she married Paul Verle Bennett at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Leon. They were blessed with five children, Terri, Cathy, Joni, Bill, and Jeffrey. Mildred and Paul were active members of St. Brendan’s Catholic Church. They joined with Melvin and Madonna Keller to create and sell crafts. They were always together after Paul’s retirement. Mildred also enjoyed league bowling when the children were younger and was a Red Hat Lady for a time. After they sold their home of many years and moved to Hillside, she and Paul went for coffee weekly with Lloyd and Marilyn Overton, exercised at Public Health nearly every week day with Bonnie Carlberg, both of which Mildred continued after Paul’s death. Mildred really enjoyed her time working jigsaw puzzles with the Hillside neighbors and playing cards with her special friends. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was blessed with many special nieces and nephews.
