Obituary – Marilyn Joy Paton

Marilyn Joy Paton, age 83, of Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Boyd and Lena Louise (Zimmer) Haradon, was born February 10, 1935, in Buena Vista County, Iowa. She left this life from the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa on Sunday, December 30, 2018.

Marilyn grew up in Early, Iowa. While in school, her passion was playing basketball and singing. After graduation she attended business school in Omaha, Nebraska for a year. She then moved to Burlington, Iowa and met her future husband, William “Bill” Graham Paton. They were married in August of 1958. While living in Burlington their four children were born. Later the family relocated to Oskaloosa, Iowa where Bill was employed at HyVee and Marilyn was a mom and worked in a women’s clothing store. She was very involved in the Oskaloosa Community Church. When Bill retired they moved to Decatur, Iowa in the mid 1990’s. Marilyn was a cook at Central Decatur Schools for a few years.

In her free time Marilyn was active in the Leon Bible Church. She also read all the books her sister authored, loved to play Hand and Foot card game, and quilted.

Preceded her in death were her parents; husband, Bill Paton; son, Jerry Paton; and sister, Janet Dailey. Survivors include her three children, Dennis Paton of New York City, New York, Doug and Renea Paton of Theodore, Alabama, and Chris Paton of Oskaloosa, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Tina Pangborn of the Twin Cities, Minnesota; several grandchildren; many great grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Bettin and Shirley Gerdes, both of Leon; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
