Obituary – Edwin Dale Robins

Edwin Dale Robins, son of Fred D. and Eve Mae (Shutts) Robins, was born January 21,1925, in Weldon, Iowa and passed from this life on November 1, 2018, at the Homestead Assisted Living in Osceola, Iowa, at the age of 93 years.

Edwin grew up around Weldon, Iowa and graduated from Osceola High School in 1943. He told many tales of his years growing up around Weldon as the youngest of his six brothers and sisters. He told of his years of playing basketball and going on FFA trips while in high school. This too is where he met Deloris Reed, who would become Deloris Robins, and give him three children, seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.

Ed and Deloris were married December 29, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa. They made their homes in Cummings, Lamoni, Murray, and Osceola, Iowa, most of which were spent on a farm. Ed was a farmer at heart always. Ed and Deloris raised three children while farming, Sheila, Lanny, and Douglas and were married for 60 years before Deloris passed in 2005.

Ed drove a Murray Community School School bus for fourteen years and served as the Clarke County Weed Commissioner. He was a past member of the Osceola Saddle Club and the Osceola Square Dance Club, and a current member of the Murray United Methodist Church. He had also served as a Hospice volunteer.

Ed was a true farmer, watering cows, bottle-feeding calves, checking on cows, and raking hay up until about four years ago. He loved being surrounded by family, attending grandchildren’s events and family gatherings. He enjoyed rodeos, draft horse pulls, and anything to do with the past or being outside. The last several years he enjoyed going uptown on the 4th of July to watch the parade and some of the events.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Deloris; and siblings, Juanita and Jap Webb, Ardell and Ralph Boggs, Gayle and Audra Robins, Donal and Margaret Robins, Fredine Hatfield, and Evelyn and Wilber Hatfield.

Ed is survived by his three children Sheila Harned and husband, Carroll, of Indianola, Iowa, Lanny Robins and wife, Sheryl, of Osceola, and Doug Robins and wife, Dianna of Murray, Iowa; grandchildren, Tami & Jim DeVore, Tawnia & Andrew Shipley, Corey & Carey Robins, Chris & Shelli Robins, Bethany Otto, Kyle & Lauren Robins and Lucas & Kimber Robins; great-grandchildren, Cody, Turner, Skylar, Adam, Nicholas, Carley, Cobey, Cage, Caitlyn, Callie, Kyra, Mackenzi, Billy, Bo, Kasen and Ellis; great-great-grandchildren, Brody, Addilie, Madden, Gracelyn & Harper; sister-in-law, Doris Linder of Osceola; nieces, nephews; and his old dog, Buck.

Ed's Family wants to thank the staff at Homestead Assisted Living in Osceola and Windsor Manor in Indianola for all their great care.

Funeral services will be held at the Murray United Methodist Church in Murray, Iowa at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2018. Burial will be at a later date in Maple Hill Cemetery, Osceola, Iowa.
