Obituary - Darlene “Doll” Mae Greenland

Darlene Mae Greenland, age 82, left this life from her Leon, Iowa home on April 22, 2020, surrounded by her family. She was born in Leon, Iowa August 5, 1937 to Clarence Milton and Esther Mae (Wasson) Cooper.

Darlene attended Leon High School and played basketball, graduating in 1956.

On May 21, 1960, she was married to Robert Franklin Greenland in Bethany, Missouri. They were saved on May 14, 1965, and baptized a few days later in the Baptist faith. They were blessed with three daughters, Lori, Shelly, and Stacy. They divorced in 1975, but remained close until his death.

Darlene worked multiple jobs; Ben Franklin, tending bar at Vern & Brenda’s and Rosie’s for several years, meeting a lot of friends and enjoying many good times. She started working at O’Bryan Brothers in January 1985 until retirement in 2001. Darlene enjoyed spending time with her family, family meals, and being outside. She had a real passion for and loved tending to her flower gardens, and hummingbirds. She also enjoyed growing vegetables, canning, mushroom hunting, crocheting, and reading. She was a hard working, strong and selfless woman. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her daughter Lori, siblings Dorothy Miller, Hazel Greenland, Ronald Cooper, and her ex-husband Bob.

Survivors include her daughters Shelly Greenland of Decatur, Iowa, and Stacy Greenland of Leon, Iowa; her sister Ila Black of Leon, Iowa; grandchildren, Andrea Leonard, Brett Leonard and fiancee Brittni, Devin Thompson, Josey Sandage, Trinity Greenland; great grandchildren Jessica and Justin Medendenhall, Caden Thurman and Kinsley Leonard; son-in-law Mike Leonard; “daughter” Star Bethards; nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
