Obituary – Danny Lewis Boyd

Danny Lewis Boyd, age 70, was born May 6, 1949, to Warren Grant and Nadine Lucille (Marsengill) Boyd, in Leon, Iowa. He left this life on July 4, 2019, at his Leon, Iowa home surrounded by his family. Danny donated his body to science via Des Moines University hoping the information learned could be used to benefit his kids and grandkids.

Danny grew up and attended school in Wayne and Decatur Counties in Iowa. On July 16, 1967, he married Nancy Kay Lockwood in Leon, Iowa. Over the next fifty-two years, they lived in multiple places in and around Leon with time in Colorado and Missouri. Danny and Nancy settled on an acreage outside of Leon where they pursued their many hobbies and interests. They were blessed with five children, Johnny Lee, Tabatha Kay, Joshua Dan, Matthew Lewis, and Nicolle Danielle.

Danny enjoyed farming throughout his life raising crops, cattle, and horses. At one time he and Nancy raised 77 horses. Danny joined his dad and brother, Warren and Warren Lee, in the earth working business in the early 1970’s. Danny brought his own flare to the family business and started constructing residential and commercial buildings and performing large road construction projects. Danny gave many young men and women in the community (including his own kids and wife) a start in construction by employing them and teaching them a solid work ethic and commitment to excellence. Boyd Construction flourished over 25 years and was purchased by his son, Matt, in 2003. Danny remained an integral and important part of Boyd Construction until his death.

Each day started with a cup of coffee and conversation with family and friends. Danny was rarely seen without his dark black beard and full head of hair. He was very passionate about everything he did. Danny lived his life with conviction, fire, and dedication to hard work and his word. Danny took on big projects and finished what he started. He always had a vision of the completed project before it started and could bring that vision to reality. He built houses from napkin sketches, ran large crews, and managed big project budgets. He was a man of his word, lived life with a passion, and always followed through with his promises. Danny enjoyed spontaneous outings, attending auctions with his wife, collecting antiques, woodcarving, and his Coors Regular beer.

Family was always Danny’s number one priority. He loved being with his wife, kids and grandkids. He cherished the time with his brothers and sisters. His quick wit, humor, temper, and candid commentary was always on display, ready, and enjoyed. He loved planning and attending family gatherings bringing together his 13 grandkids and his extended family from all over. He always wanted to start planning the next family event as soon as possible. A visit to Grandpa and Grandma’s house meant learning how to mow with the riding lawn mower, riding horses, fishing, Gator rides and/or just sitting in the shade outside and telling stories of past projects, coon hunting, antiquing, sports, Christmases past, panthers, horses, and grandkids. He and Nancy brought this love on Christmas day traveling to each of their kid’s homes to celebrate the special day with their families. No conversation ended without a hug and an “I love you!” and “Be sure to call when you get home!”

Preceding him in death were his parents Warren and Nadine Boyd; in-laws, Victor and Mildred Lockwood; four month old son, Joshua Dan in 1970; brother, Warren Lee Boyd; and sister, Louellen Eastin. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Boyd of Leon; children, Johnny & wife, Lisa Boyd of Waukee, Iowa, Tabatha & husband, Brett Carney of Ames, Iowa, Matt & wife, Michelle Boyd of Indianola, Iowa, and Nicci & husband, Joey Gregg of Leon, Iowa; grandchildren, Johnny’s Kennedy, Meridan, & Ben, Tabatha’s Brycen, Tyler, and Mackenzie, Matthew’s Sadie, Ansley, and Lyndon, and Nicolle’s Ashton, Kaylee, Ledger, and Tucker; sister, Janet and husband, Wayne Richman of Leon; brother, Terry and wife, Jeanne Boyd of Leon; brother-in-law, Larry Eastin of Leon; sister-in-law, Cindy Boyd of Decatur, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many, many friends.

Danny’s legacy is a strong family of love and connection. If you look closely and listen well, you will hear and see Danny in the voices and faces of his kids and grandkids.

Danny Lewis Boyd – dearly loved and missed by us all! We love you and we are glad you are now home!
