Obituary – Barbara Ann Yarrington

Barbara “Barb” Yarrington was well known in her community. Anyone who knew her would say that Barb was wonderfully caring and generous with her joy, her love, her time. If anyone needed anything, they knew they could count on her. All would say that she was happy and positive. And she was so completely and truly that. She was born that way. There are few people in this world with a kinder or more generous heart and spirit. The focus of her life was helping others, all others, her family, her friends, any one or any animal in need of love and care.

She was born to Clarence and Emma Anna Louise (Haase) Sutton on August 4, 1936, and grew up with her two sisters in Independence, Missouri. She married Charles Thompson of Independence. They eventually settled in Lamoni, Iowa with their three daughters. Barb worked various jobs before starting a long career at Graceland College. She worked in several departments at Graceland including the Music Department, Student Financial Services, Student Activities and the TRIO program.

Barb was married to Bob Daily until his death in 2003. For the past eight and a half years she found a loving husband in Ben Yarrington of Lamoni. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother to all her immediate and extended family. She was the steady heart that beat within all of us. She cherished her family and valued their love in return.

Barb passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2020. Until that day, she was very active in her community, exceedingly caring and loving of her family and spent much of her time caring for her great grandchildren who gave her endless hours of joy.

When we think of her we smile and remember any given gesture, helping hand, laugh. We will miss her every day but know that she lived her life just how she wanted to - with happiness, love and generosity.

From one of her favorite poems by Ralph Waldo Emerson, “…To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by the healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” We can all agree that Barb succeeded in her life.

As for her immediate family, she leaves her husband Ben Yarrington; daughters, Lisa McLain (Dave Morgan), Jill Doll (Paul), and Sara Farrington (Tim); granddaughters, Emily McLain, and Madeline and Ellen Doll; great grandchildren Demetrie, Ivy and Alex; and two loving sisters, Donna Pierce and Linda Sue Walker. Her extended Yarrington family includes children, Benna Easter (Mark), Lu Olson (Jim), and Ken Yarrington (Paula); grandchildren, Benjamin (Meghan), Dan (Annie), Michael (Sarah), Jessamy (Jarom), and McKenzie; and great grandchildren, Serenity, Autumn, Mark, Duncan, Aurelia, and Ryu. The Daily family children, Pat Hoffman (Jim), Bob Daily, and Ed Daily (Judy); grandchildren, Amy Hoffman (Mindy), Tim Hoffman (Abby), Leatha Hepburn (Tray), Ed Daily (Chelsey); and great grandchildren, Baylor, Kholt, Kashen, Kannon, Aleah, Eastyn, Daxtyn, and Collyns.

A celebration of life gathering will be announced at a later date.
