Chester Richard Young, age 80 of Osceola, Iowa, the son of Fred and Ruth (Ward) Young, was born November 19, 1932 in Richland Township of Decatur County, Iowa.  He died at Westview Acres in Leon, Iowa on Monday, October 7, 2013.

Chet spent his childhoold days in and around Grand River, Iowa.  He attended his early years in country school  As a young man he worked the farm with his father before entering the United States Air Force.  During his time of service between October of 1954 and October of 1962, he was stationed in California, Colorado, Ohio, South Africa, Louisiana, and Guam.  After his discharge, he worked in Des Moines, Iowa.

On September 3, 1967 Chet was united in marriage to Fern Luvella (Lockey) Austin in Bethany, Missouri.  They bought a farm in Lucas County, Iowa, that he farmed until December of 1994.  They retired to Chariton, Iowa.  He had many friends and enjoyed going to coffee with them.  Chet was a friend to everyone and always was finding something to give to family and friends.  For the past eight years or so, Chet and Fern have lived in Osceola.

Chet liked farming and working the soil  He was an animal lover.  Sheep, cattle, and pigs were on the farm he worked.  He always had a dog he treasured.  The joy of farming was to go find the new born calves, lambs, and piglets.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Cleta Knorr, Doris Hewlett, Donald Young, and Maurice Young; nephews, Bob Hewlett and Doug Young; and niece Connie White.  Survivors include his wife, Fern Young, of Osceola; nieces and nephews, Don & Marjorie Hewlett, Rita & Quentin Anderson, Bernard & Joyce Hewlett, Fred & Connie Young, Cindy & Mike Kauzlarich, Carol Young, Kathy & Bart Parker, Daniel Young, Bonnie & John Ingval, Cherrie & Jim Shumaker, Shirley Lockey, Evelyn Lockey, Wayne & Mary Lockey, Carolyn & Tom Dotson, Kay Harshburger, Robert Lockey, Joan Tatman, Mary & Gary Munson, and Sondra & Mark Fodness; great nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

We lived right next door to Chet and Fern for ten years in Chariton and puchased their home when they decided to move to Osceola.  You could look forever and a day, and NEVER find better people.  It is so sad that we just found out today, Nov 27th, about Chet's passing!!  Any time we got to Osceola, unfortunately, it always ended up the same story, gonna stop by, but always in a hurry to run errands.  "We'll catch them next time".  Well, this is a GREAT reminder, never put off til tomorrow, what you CAN do today !!  We could write pages about these wonderful people, but I'll stop here for now.  We are wondering were Fern is now and would appreciate ANY info.  Would LOVE to see her !!  Our # is 641-774-4015.  We're assuming anyone reading this is close to them.  Would love to hear from you !!  GOD BLESS both of them !!!!!!!

Our family in Texas were all heart broken to hear of Chet passing away. Very fond memories will be kept in our hearts. Bernard Hewlett is not able to travel and would hove liked to have been there. I Mark Hewlett was to start a new job on the funeral day,
so I could not attend. We are all very sad that we could not attend
Chet's service. He will be deeply missed by the Hewlett family
and the Fouts family here in Texas.
