Chester "Chet" Richard Young
Chet spent his childhoold days in and around Grand River, Iowa. He attended his early years in country school As a young man he worked the farm with his father before entering the United States Air Force. During his time of service between October of 1954 and October of 1962, he was stationed in California, Colorado, Ohio, South Africa, Louisiana, and Guam. After his discharge, he worked in Des Moines, Iowa.
On September 3, 1967 Chet was united in marriage to Fern Luvella (Lockey) Austin in Bethany, Missouri. They bought a farm in Lucas County, Iowa, that he farmed until December of 1994. They retired to Chariton, Iowa. He had many friends and enjoyed going to coffee with them. Chet was a friend to everyone and always was finding something to give to family and friends. For the past eight years or so, Chet and Fern have lived in Osceola.
Chet liked farming and working the soil He was an animal lover. Sheep, cattle, and pigs were on the farm he worked. He always had a dog he treasured. The joy of farming was to go find the new born calves, lambs, and piglets.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Cleta Knorr, Doris Hewlett, Donald Young, and Maurice Young; nephews, Bob Hewlett and Doug Young; and niece Connie White. Survivors include his wife, Fern Young, of Osceola; nieces and nephews, Don & Marjorie Hewlett, Rita & Quentin Anderson, Bernard & Joyce Hewlett, Fred & Connie Young, Cindy & Mike Kauzlarich, Carol Young, Kathy & Bart Parker, Daniel Young, Bonnie & John Ingval, Cherrie & Jim Shumaker, Shirley Lockey, Evelyn Lockey, Wayne & Mary Lockey, Carolyn & Tom Dotson, Kay Harshburger, Robert Lockey, Joan Tatman, Mary & Gary Munson, and Sondra & Mark Fodness; great nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
A graveside memorial service will be held at the Grand River Cemetery, Grand River, Iowa at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013 with Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. Burial will be in the Grand River Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established by the Family.
